Editors' recap: Can you say, "Cinderella?" In the first big upset of the tourney, the Nextel Motorla i95cl outlasted the Sanyo SCP-5300 in a tight match that saw several lead changes. The Sanyo got off to a good start, but the Motorola came out strong in the second quarter and held the lead until the late third, when the Sanyo pushed out in front. But a late burst from the Nextel sent it through to the next round, crushing the dreams of team Sanyo and its loyal followers.

- "The Motorolas are reliable; smash them with a hammer, and the hammer would break! Go Motorola!"
- "Both are kind of bulky, but at least the Sanyo makes it worthwhile with the built-in camera and sweet display. The Nextel doesn't even come close."

- "Chirp-chirp is 'played,' but click-click makes it the easy winner. The 5300's reception makes the Sanyo an excellent winner...maybe that's why Sanyo has the lowest return rate of any Sprint phone."
- "Nextel has the value and hard-working ability. Sanyo is just for show and flash. In the long run, you want something that is there and going to work for you."
- "I can't believe that that big chunky Motorola is even in the same league as the Sanyo!"
- "While I agree that the Sanyo SCP-5300 may be sexier than the Nextel i95cl, I think the Sanyo is all flash and no substance. NOTHING beats Nextel's Direct Connect feature for instant and reliable communication! I have been addicted to Direct Connect for years, and the i95 brings even more user-friendliness to this unique Nextel feature. I could not conduct business as well as I do without it!"
